Check probate court filings the easy way

by Boyd Johnson on February 20, 2009

An easy way to monitor court filings on a probate case is to access Minnesota’s trial court records online. Although you can’t see the actual documents, you can see entries of documents that have been filed. I frequently check the online probate records for items such as:

  • Statements for Claims that were filed with the court but not sent to the PR
  • Demands for Notice
  • Wills deposited prior to opening a probate
  • Verification of court hearing dates and times (including continuances)

I also like to print a copy of the online record after the 4-month creditors’ claims period expires for my files. You may want to do so a few days after the period has expired in case the system hasn’t been updated. Note, however, that I’ve frequently found that the court’s record for the expiration of the claims period is off by a few days. Calculate the cut-off date on your own– don’t rely on the online record.

You can also review a judge’s/referee’s calendar online for scheduling purposes.

Check it out at: Minnesota Trial Court Records.
